Three Card Poker Basics

Posted on July 25, 2021 by Frances Cusumano

Three card Poker is a fast paced game that's easy to learn for the novice card player.

This game is played with a 52 card deck and is played between a dealer and a single player.

The player and dealer are each dealt 3 cards that are placed face down. The goal of the game is for you to find a higher three card poker hand than the dealer. An important rule that individuals must remember when playing three card poker is about the hand rankings. In three card poker a straight is greater than a flush because there are fewer ways to make a three card straight than a three card flush.

There's very little strategy and absolutely no bluffing involved in this sport, and that's the reason why I said at the start it is a game for the beginner. The major decision in this game comes when the participant looks at the cards he's dealt. He must decide whether to fold or to increase. In three card poker a raise means you're paying to see the dealer's cards.

The minimum hand you should have before increasing is an ace high with either a queen or king, otherwise one needs to fold. There's a twist in this kind of poker however, whereby the trader may get a higher three card poker hand than you and lose the game. It functions as follows, the trader should have a queen high hand or better, or his hands doesn't count for the match. So theoretically if you're dealt a hand with only a ten inside you could still win the hand. For this twist to happen, however, you'll need to increase the dealer, so think carefully before raising with a weak hand.
